“That Magic Time” is a phrase often used by filmmakers to describe that last hour of great light available to them in their film-making day. On many occasions, that last good hour contains the very best light available to cinematographers. It is a golden, magic time.

That phrase captures, and captivates, me. The last hour of great light is my favorite time of the day. The day’s work has been brought to a pause, and I find just the right place on our good land to recall the rhythms of the past hours, and to recapture a few glimpses of what’s been made visible to me over the course of the day.

I feel that golden hour emotionally and spiritually, as well as physically. That “magic time” metaphor fits my age and stage perfectly. Now in my late 70’s, many adventures are history. And that is just fine with me because I feel that this precise moment is my very best time. My life and the light are just right.

  1. That Magic Time: What a beautiful metaphor for the time of life you find yourself in, and one I am rushing towards. I look forward to hearing more about it!

  2. Ahhh, to ease into a sacred place of remembering – a profound gift to self – and thank you David for describing so well the place I so often find myself with the people I serve – as they come home to their bodies in this way of peace.
